Degaussing eliminates and destroys the magnetic field position causing the magnetic domains to be left in random patterns, making data unrecoverable. Typically after degaussing hard drives and disk drives they are no longer usable. Older devices, such as floppy disks, tapes, and video cassettes, may still be re-writable allowing them to be reused and recycled multiple times.
